The Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Program is a Federal/State partnership program designed to assure compliance with Federal and State Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Regulations for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of natural gas pipeline facilities in the District of Columbia.

Commission Staff perform on-site inspections of construction activities, operational records and pipeline facilities; conduct accident investigations to determine probable and root causes; implement enforcement actions, including civil penalties; develop regulations to facilitate natural gas pipeline safety; monitor the training and verify the qualifications of pipeline operators and promote natural gas pipeline safety through public education and communication programs
