Dr. Yohannes K.G. Mariam joined the Public Service Commission on August 6, 2007 and serves as the Senior Economist.
Dr. Mariam holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He completed a multidisciplinary program involving Economics, Agricultural Economics, Anthropology and Applied Cognitive Psychology. He also specializes in quantitative economics (econometrics and operations research) and resource economics.
Dr. Mariam was a fellow of the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada from 1993 to 1995.
Dr. Mariam worked as a social scientist and economist for Environment Canada from 1995 to 1999. He also worked as economist for the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission from 1999-2007.
Dr. Mariam is also an adjunct professor economics and management with the University of Phoenix (online campus). He has published widely on subjects such as production economics, energy (resource) economics, environment, economic growth and development. He has served as a reviewer for the Journal of the Air and Waste Management. He is an associate editor for the International Journal of Ecological Economics & Statistics.
